Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding a purportedly objectionable post against actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has referred to her as the "daughter of Himachal."

The controversy arose after a post by Supriya Shrinate featuring a picture of Ranaut with an objectionable caption circulated on social media platforms. Following significant backlash, Shrinate claimed that her social media account had been hacked and misused, leading to the deletion of the post.

Ranaut, fielded by the BJP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh for the upcoming general elections, has been at the centre of political discourse in the region.

CM Sukhu, addressing reporters in Shimla, emphasised Ranaut's connection to Himachal Pradesh, highlighting that her parents reside in the state and her father previously held the position of General Secretary of Congress in Mandi.

Responding to inquiries, Sukhu underscored the government's initiatives aimed at empowering women, including the Mahila Samman Nidhi scheme, which involves distributing financial assistance to women.

However, BJP leaders have rallied in support of Ranaut and condemned the Congress for the alleged derogatory post. Himachal Pradesh's Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, criticised the Congress for disrespecting women and vowed to take legal action against the matter.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Shaina NC denounced the attempt to stereotype women in public life, expressing solidarity with Ranaut's decision to join active politics. She emphasised Ranaut's commitment to contribute positively to the nation.

In response to the controversy, Ranaut asserted that every woman deserves dignity, irrespective of their profession. She expressed disappointment over the reference to Mandi, a place renowned for its cultural and spiritual significance.

Ranaut is set to visit the BJP headquarters in Delhi, where she will meet with party president J P Nadda. She indicated that further action against the Congress leader would be discussed following her meeting with party officials.

The controversy underscores the intersection of politics and social media, highlighting the need for respectful discourse and gender equality in public life.
