A violent clash erupted between two communities in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh on Wednesday over the hoisting of flags and the installation of loudspeakers for Maha Shivratri celebrations.
The incident at Hindustan Chowk quickly escalated as both sides pelted stones at each other, leaving several people injured.
The violence took a severe turn when multiple vehicles and shops were set on fire. Emergency services rushed the injured to Hazaribagh Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Police intervened to restore order, resorting to lathi charges to disperse the crowd. Additional police personnel have since been deployed to maintain law and order in the area.
“Adequate forces have been stationed, and senior officers are present on-site. The situation is currently under control and peaceful,” said Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahay.
The incident has sparked strong political reactions. Union Minister and BJP MP from Ranchi, Sanjay Seth, condemned the violence and accused Bangladeshi infiltrators of disturbing communal harmony in the state.
“Violence during Saraswati Puja, Ramnavami, and Holi has become common in Jharkhand. Nowhere else in the country do such incidents occur so frequently. Why?
Because Bangladeshi infiltrators are changing the demography and law and order of the state,” Seth told reporters.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as investigations continue into the cause of the clashes and those responsible for the arson.
