EC seeks reply from Pawan Khera on dual EPIC cards.

The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday issued a notice to senior Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera over the possession of two EPIC ID cards, seeking clarification on his registration as a voter in two Delhi constituencies.

The notice, sent by the New Delhi Electoral Officer, cited voter records under Khera’s name in both New Delhi and Jangpura Assembly seats. It stated: “Notice to Shri Pawan Khera for getting himself registered in the Electoral Roll of more than one constituency.”

The development comes after the disclosure of Khera’s dual voter IDs, raising questions over irregularities in the electoral rolls.

Reacting to the revelation, Khera, who heads the Congress’s media and publicity department, said the matter underscored systemic flaws within the EC. He described it as “vindication” of the party’s charge of ‘vote chori,’ or vote theft.

Earlier in the day, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya shared photographs of electoral rolls from both constituencies on X, claiming Khera holds two active EPIC numbers. Malviya argued that the incident exposed the Congress’s duplicity on voter fraud allegations.

He wrote: “Rahul Gandhi screamed ‘Vote Chori’ from the rooftops. But just like he forgot to mention that his mother, Sonia Gandhi, enlisted herself in India’s voter list even before becoming an Indian citizen, it has now emerged that Pawan Khera, Congress spokesperson – who never misses a chance to flaunt his proximity to the Gandhis – holds two active EPIC numbers (in Jangpura and New Delhi Assembly constituencies, falling under East Delhi and New Delhi Lok Sabha seats respectively).”

Khera dismissed the charges, asserting that the issue lay with the EC’s functioning.

“Whether the question is raised by Anurag Thakur, Amit Malviya, or the Congress party, everything points to the Election Commission and the way it functions. That’s why the Congress is demanding transparency: Varanasi’s machine-readable voter list, Maharashtra’s booth-wise CCTV footage, we’re not getting any of these. That’s why we call it vote theft,” he said.

Khera has been a vocal critic of alleged irregularities in voter lists and has led the Congress’s campaign for greater accountability in the electoral process.
