The Congress party has officially announced the nomination of Abhishek Manu Singhvi for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election in Telangana. This decision was confirmed by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, who stated that the party's President, Mallikarjun Kharge, has endorsed Singhvi’s candidacy for the Council of States seat from Telangana.
Singhvi’s nomination comes after a loss in the Rajya Sabha elections held earlier this year in Himachal Pradesh. The bye-election in Telangana is being held to fill the seat left vacant by K Keshava Rao, who recently resigned from his position.
Rao, a former chief of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, had been with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), formerly known as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), since 2013. His return to Congress has opened up the opportunity for Singhvi to contest.
The Election Commission of India has scheduled the polling for this Rajya Sabha seat on September 3.
