Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Thursday submitted a notice in the Lok Sabha seeking an adjournment of the House’s business to deliberate on the relaxation of “National Security Protocols” for the Khavda Renewable Energy Project in Gujarat, located along the India-Pakistan border.
In his notice, Tagore raised concerns regarding the project’s proximity to the sensitive border region, asserting that such relaxations posed a “grave risk” to national security.
The Khavda Renewable Energy Park, led by the Adani Group, is situated merely one kilometre from the volatile India-Pakistan frontier in the Rann of Kutch, a region with a history of conflicts between the two nations, he stated.
“The relaxation of these security protocols is alarming, as it puts our national security at grave risk. Military experts who have dedicated their lives to protecting this nation have raised valid concerns. Allowing such a critical energy project so close to a volatile border undermines established military norms and compromises our strategic readiness,” the Congress leader said.
Tagore further alleged that both the BJP-led Gujarat Government and the Centre had engaged in clandestine discussions to override objections raised by senior military officers.

“The government went so far as to create exceptions for this project, and potentially others, near India's borders with Pakistan, China, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. This is a direct assault on the integrity of military advice and national security protocols,” he stated.
The Congress MP also accused the Modi government of cronyism, alleging preferential treatment towards the Adani Group.
“The Modi government's cronyism, with its clear favouritism toward the Adani Group, is a threat to the sovereignty of our nation. The decision to award such a high-risk project to Adani raises severe concerns about conflicts of interest and transparency in governance,” he remarked.
Demanding an urgent discussion, Tagore called for scrutiny of the process through which the project was awarded to the Adani Group, bypassing military concerns.
He also urged deliberations on the broader ramifications of prioritising commercial projects over national security.
“This motion needs immediate attention for the protection of our borders, military integrity, and national security,” he said.
