Congress MLAs stall House proceedings in Jharkhand.

The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes on Tuesday, the third day of the supplementary monsoon session, as ruling Congress MLAs disrupted proceedings with slogans against the government at the Centre.

Shouting cries of “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod (Vote Thief, Leave the Chair)”, the legislators staged a noisy protest, forcing Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato to adjourn the House until 2 p.m.

The day’s session had been scheduled for a special discussion on the plight of farmers whose crops have been damaged by incessant rain.

Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey was due to present a detailed report on the losses and outline the state government’s relief measures. However, the uproar prevented the discussion from taking place.

In addition to the debate on agriculture, several important bills had been lined up for introduction. The Speaker validated the tabling of these bills despite the disruptions before announcing the adjournment.

These included the Jharkhand State University Bill, 2025, the Jharkhand Vocational Educational Institutions (Fee Regulation) Bill, 2025, the Jharkhand Coaching Centres (Control and Regulation) Bill, 2025, the Jharkhand Micro, Small and Medium (Special Exemption) Bill, 2025, and the Jharkhand Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Bill, 2025.

The morning proceedings were due to begin with Question Hour, covering issues from multiple departments, including Urban Development and Housing, Revenue and Land Reforms, Road Construction, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Drinking Water and Sanitation. But persistent sloganeering by Congress legislators derailed the schedule.

The repeated disruptions highlighted the growing tension between the Opposition and the Treasury benches. The Opposition BJP is already raising the issues of the Surya Hansda encounter and RIMS 2 land acquisition cases in the House.
