JPC Inquiry Demanded By Congress in Adani Hindenburg Case.

On Tuesday, the Congress intensified its call for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) inquiry into the ongoing controversy surrounding the Adani Group, Hindenburg Research's allegations, and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The party’s move comes in response to claims made by the US-based short seller Hindenburg and accusations against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch.

Congress MP KC Venugopal revealed that the party held a crucial meeting with AICC General Secretaries, Incharges, and PCC presidents under the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

During the meeting, Venugopal emphasised the severity of the situation, labelling it as one of the most significant scams affecting the country. He stressed the need for a JPC to investigate the allegations thoroughly.

Venugopal also addressed the issue of potential involvement of Congress members in the controversy. He urged that if any Congress members are implicated, they should be thoroughly investigated.

He further criticised the central government for allegedly using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as a political tool, suggesting that such tactics are used to intimidate rather than investigate fairly.

Additionally, Venugopal touched upon other pressing issues discussed in the meeting. These included the call for a nationwide caste census and the response to natural disasters in Wayanad, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and the Northeastern states. The Congress also discussed the situation in Bangladesh, particularly concerns about attacks on religious minorities and their places of worship.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh supported the call for a JPC, stressing the importance of a comprehensive investigation into the Adani-Hindenburg allegations. He argued that recent revelations have only heightened the need for a thorough examination by a parliamentary committee.

Ramesh also reiterated the party's demand for a national caste census, asserting that it is the central government's constitutional duty to uphold social, economic, and political justice.

The Congress party is pressing for a detailed and independent investigation into the Adani-Hindenburg matter, highlighting broader concerns about political transparency, social justice, and disaster management.
