The Congress in Rajasthan has announced plans to conduct a series of awareness meetings at the grassroots level to bolster the ongoing farmers' movement advocating for a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Addressing the media, party leader Ashok Chandna revealed that the initiative, titled 'Kisan Jagrat Sammelan,' aims to galvanize farmers across the state and shed light on the BJP's stance regarding agricultural policies.
Chandna emphasized the need to expose the true intentions of the BJP and fortify the ongoing farmers' agitation. He stressed the necessity of enacting a 'guarantee law' by the central government to safeguard the interests of farmers and ensure MSP for their crops.
The 'Delhi Chalo' protest, led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, has been a focal point of the farmers' agitation, particularly from Punjab. Their demands include a legal assurance from the central government regarding MSP for agricultural produce.
Drawing attention to historical precedent, Chandna highlighted a report submitted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2011, during his tenure as Gujarat's chief minister and chairman of a working group, advocating for MSP to be enshrined in legal provisions.
Chandna juxtaposed this with the current situation, questioning Modi's stance on MSP amidst the farmers' demands. Criticizing the central government's procurement policies, Chandna pointed out discrepancies in wheat procurement targets versus actual procurement in Rajasthan during the 2022-23 period.
He alleged that the procurement shortfall was politically motivated, attributing it to the Congress' governance in the state during that time. Furthermore, Chandna recalled the Congress-led UPA government's initiatives that provided guarantees in various sectors, including employment, education, information, and food security.
He accused Modi of appropriating the term 'guarantee' as a mere slogan, devoid of substantive action. The Congress leader's statements underscore the party's commitment to championing the cause of farmers and holding the government accountable for its promises.
The upcoming 'Kisan Jagrat Sammelan' signifies a concerted effort to mobilize grassroots support and amplify the voices of farmers in Rajasthan. Stay tuned for further updates as the Congress announces the dates for the panchayat-level awareness campaign, signaling a renewed push for agrarian reforms and farmer welfare in the state.
