The Congress on Sunday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarify alleged “disclosures” in the latest batch of US investigative documents linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, saying the references raised serious questions and required a direct response from him.

Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal said reports emerging from the Epstein files suggested that “monsters” had access to the Prime Minister, and alleged that this made him vulnerable to foreign influence.

“The reports of the new batch of Epstein Files are a huge wake-up call about the kind of monsters who have access to PM Modi, and how susceptible he is to foreign manipulation,” Venugopal said in a post on X. “The Congress demands that the prime minister personally come clean on these disturbing disclosures that raise serious questions.”

Raising a series of questions, Venugopal asked, “Has he met Jeffrey Epstein? Or did he send someone to meet him? What did his conversations with Epstein
involve?”

The Epstein files comprise thousands of pages of documents connected to two criminal investigations into sex trafficking involving Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, including travel logs, emails and recordings. The documents have drawn global attention since Epstein’s death in custody in 2019.

Venugopal further alleged that at a time when India’s foreign policy was undergoing major shifts, the Prime Minister was “dancing and singing” to the tunes of “tainted” individuals to “benefit foreign powers”. “People of India deserve an answer,” he said.

Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh echoed the demand, saying, “The prime minister himself must clarify.”

Congress leader Pawan Khera also questioned whether Modi had any contact with Epstein around the time of the 2019 general elections.

The BJP, however, rejected the Congress’s claims, accusing it of spreading misinformation by “twisting” a generic email fragment from the investigative material into a political smear. The party maintained that there was “zero evidence” of any direct or indirect interaction between Modi and Epstein.

The Ministry of External Affairs also dismissed the references, calling them “little more than trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal” and said they deserved to be rejected with the “utmost contempt”.
