Harish Rawat: Lessons from Haryana to Guide Congress' Success In Upcoming State Polls.

Congress leader Harish Rawat has emphasised that the party has taken important lessons from its recent loss in the Haryana elections. He expressed confidence that the INDIA alliance will emerge victorious in the forthcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

During a media briefing, Rawat stated, “We have learned a lesson from Haryana and will be more careful. Our alliance will win the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Whenever we unite to contest elections, we achieve success. We are also optimistic about winning in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and other by-elections.”

The Congress General Secretary, KC Venugopal, also voiced optimism regarding the party’s prospects in both Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

He stated, “We are prepared to fight and win these assembly elections, along with the by-elections happening across the country. While the term of the Jharkhand Assembly extends until the last week of December, it was the first to announce its election schedule. Conversely, the Maharashtra Assembly’s term ends on November 26, yet they announced the elections for Maharashtra last. This raises concerns about transparency, but we remain ready to contest and succeed.”

Jharkhand will conduct its assembly elections in two phases on November 13 and 20, while Maharashtra will have a single-phase election on November 20. The counting of votes for both states is scheduled for November 23.

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) provided further details about the election timeline in Maharashtra. The Gazette notification for the elections will be issued on October 22, with the last date for filing nominations set for October 29. Nominations will undergo scrutiny on October 30, and the final date for withdrawing candidacies is November 4.

In the upcoming elections, the main contenders in Maharashtra will be the ruling Mahayuti Alliance, which comprises the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, which includes the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress.
