The DIG Jammu and Kashmir Police and Senior Superintendent of Police,  Kathua, reportedly had a narrow escape on Wednesday as their vehicle came under a lone terrorist’s fire while anti-terror operations were continuing in Hiranagar, an official said.

According to official reports, a terrorist fired over two dozen rounds at the vehicle in which the two police officers were travelling. No harm was caused to any of the officers or personnel.

The attacker was believed to be a member of a Kashmir-based terrorist organisation. Security forces are now conducting an extensive search of the area to locate him.

The incident is reportedly linked to an encounter starting late last night, which continued on Wednesday morning after two terrorists opened fire in Hiranagar village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua.

Both terrorists were killed today and a paramilitary soldier also lost his life in the exchange of fire.

Security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition around the site of the encounter between police and security forces in Sohal village of Hiranagar in Kathua

The recovered items included three magazines containing 30 rounds, another magazine with 24 rounds, 75 rounds in a separate polythene bag, three live grenades, and ₹1 lakh in currency (200 notes of ₹500).

Other recoveries included Pakistani-made chocolates, dry channa, and stale chapatis, Pakistan-made medicines and painkiller injections, a syringe, two packs of A4 batteries, and a handset wrapped in tape with an antenna and two wires hanging from it.

Another encounter took place in Doda where five soldiers and a special police officer (SPO) were injured in an attack on an army post.

Authorities have ordered intensified search operations in the area to neutralise the remaining terrorists.

Furthermore, the authorities have also suspended vehicular movement on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot Highway until further notice.
