The Samajwadi Party (SP) plans to launch a statewide weeklong tree planting initiative starting July 1 to commemorate the birthday of party President Akhilesh Yadav, a party spokesperson announced.

 

Akhilesh Yadav's birthday falls on July 1, and the initiative, named the 'PDA ped' drive, aims to showcase the party's commitment to its PDA (Pichhde Dalits, Aplsankhyak) strategy, which proved pivotal in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

 

Political analysts widely agree that the SP's focus on PDA communities was instrumental to its electoral success and could shape its future political trajectory if managed judiciously.

 

Party members and supporters will plant saplings of Banyan, Neem, and Peepal trees, selected for their environmental benefits and symbolic significance.

 

 “These three species not only contribute towards environmental well-being but also signify social justice, amity, and equality—tthe focus of the party’s commitment towards PDA,” said SP Spokesperson Udaiveer Singh.

 

Udaiveer Singh, SP spokesperson, explained that the initiative aims not only to promote environmental conservation but also to foster unity across society, contrasting it with what he described as divisive tactics seen in some political quarters.

 

"The BJP and its government are known for polarising society through their gatherings. Our approach, through planting trees, is to unify all sections of society," Udaiveer stated.

 

Each tree species holds cultural and religious significance. The Banyan tree symbolises life and fertility in Hindu culture, is associated with Lord Krishna, and is revered in Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism.

 

The Neem tree is valued for its medicinal properties and symbolises Goddess Durga's protective energy in Hindu mythology.

 

The Peepal tree holds special importance for Dalits, followers of Lord Buddha, as it is believed Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment beneath its branches.

 

The SP hopes the 'PDA ped' drive will not only contribute to a greener environment but also reinforce its commitment to inclusive social policies, setting a positive example in the political landscape.
