Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Sunday that his government is dedicated to establishing a film city in Mysuru. This project is aimed at enhancing the Kannada film industry and will be developed on a public-private partnership basis.
During the inauguration of the new building of the Kannada Film Producers' Association, Siddaramaiah revealed that the state government has already allocated 100 acres of land in Mysuru for the film city.
This initiative is in line with the vision of the legendary Kannada actor, Dr. Rajkumar, who dreamt of a film city for the Kannada film industry. Siddaramaiah emphasised that his administration is committed to realising this vision, contrasting his efforts with the previous BJP government, which he criticised for not taking any substantial steps towards this project.
The Chief Minister also addressed the need for a Kannada Over-The-Top (OTT) platform to promote and distribute Kannada films. He assured the film producers that his government is considering this proposal and will take appropriate actions to support the industry. The OTT platform is expected to provide a new avenue for filmmakers to reach a broader audience and enhance the accessibility of Kannada films.
Siddaramaiah’s announcement has been welcomed by the Kannada film community, who see this as a significant step towards boosting the regional film industry.
The establishment of the film city is anticipated to provide state-of-the-art facilities for film production, including studios, editing suites, and other infrastructure necessary for modern filmmaking. This move is expected to attract more filmmakers to Mysuru, fostering growth and creating job opportunities within the industry.
The proposed Kannada OTT platform is another promising development that is likely to benefit filmmakers and viewers alike. By providing a dedicated platform for Kannada films, the government aims to support local talent and ensure that Kannada cinema receives the recognition and audience it deserves. This platform will also help in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Karnataka through its films.
The film city and OTT platform are part of Siddaramaiah’s broader vision to support the Kannada film industry and ensure its growth and sustainability. By providing the necessary infrastructure and support, the government aims to create a conducive environment for filmmakers and boost the industry’s contribution to the state’s economy.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s commitment to building a film city in Mysuru and exploring the creation of a Kannada OTT platform marks a significant step forward for the Kannada film industry.
These initiatives reflect the government’s dedication to fostering the growth of regional cinema and supporting local talent, ensuring that the Kannada film industry continues to thrive and contribute to the cultural and economic development of Karnataka.
