A Delhi court is set to rule on whether to frame charges against former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and son Tejaswi Yadav in the IRCTC hotel corruption case.
Special Judge Vishal Gogne of the Rouse Avenue court has directed all the accused to appear in person for the order on October 13.
The case pertains to allegations of corruption during Lalu Prasad Yadav's tenure as Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009.
The Central Bureau of Investigation alleges that in exchange for the maintenance contracts for two IRCTC hotels — BNR Ranchi and BNR Puri — being awarded to a private firm, Sujata Hotel, the family received a three-acre plot of prime land through a benami company. The CBI, which concluded its arguments on March 1, has maintained that it has sufficient material to frame charges against all 14 accused.
However, senior advocate Maninder Singh, counsel for Lalu Prasad Yadav, has argued that there is no evidence to support the charges against his client. He stated that the tenders were awarded in a fair manner and that his client should be discharged from the case. The court reserved its order on May 29 after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence.
