In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a crucial suspect linked to the Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe blast incident. Sources within the anti-terror agency revealed that the suspect, identified as Shabbir, was captured in Karnataka's Bellary district.
The apprehension of the suspect follows a thorough investigation into the low-intensity blast that occurred at the popular Bengaluru cafe on March 1, leaving ten individuals injured.
The explosion, orchestrated using an IED bomb triggered by a timer, prompted intensified efforts by law enforcement to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Notably, the breakthrough in the case came after the release of several CCTV footage clips by the authorities, featuring the primary suspect. One of the images captured on March 1 depicted the suspect, believed to be approximately 30 years old, entering the cafe while carrying a plate of idli and sporting a shoulder bag suspected to contain the explosive device.
Subsequent CCTV footage analysis revealed that the suspect had altered his appearance multiple times following the blast, indicating an attempt to evade detection.
From wearing different attire, including full-sleeve shirts and half-sleeve T-shirts, to modifying his headwear and accessories, the suspect displayed a deliberate effort to conceal his identity.
The NIA had earlier announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect, underscoring the seriousness with which the case was being pursued.
Now, with the suspect in custody, interrogations are underway to glean further insights into the motives and individuals involved in the heinous act. As investigations progress, the reopening of the Rameshwaram Cafe on March 8 signifies a step towards normalcy, albeit amidst ongoing efforts to ensure justice for the victims and accountability for the perpetrators.
