Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launches 25 challenges under ‘Create in India Challenge-Season 1’ for WAVES.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently inaugurated the 'Create in India Challenge–Season 1' during the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES). This initiative introduces 25 challenges aimed at enhancing India's creator economy.

In his address, Vaishnaw underscored that this launch signifies the nation's dynamic and expanding economy. He noted that the creator economy is increasingly recognized, highlighted by the forthcoming National Creator Awards scheduled for March 2024, which will be presented by the Prime Minister.

Vaishnaw elaborated on the potential of the creator economy, describing it as a crucial platform for showcasing India's rich cultural heritage, lifestyle, yoga, traditional medicine, and diverse cuisine.

The Indian government is committed to supporting this sector by ensuring robust infrastructure and talent development. Plans include establishing world-class universities and facilities designed to elevate the capabilities of media and entertainment creators.

The Minister emphasised the role of new technologies in filmmaking, pointing out that they offer significant opportunities for job creation. If successful, the program is expected to generate between 200,000 to 300,000 jobs in the sector.

Vaishnaw also highlighted the importance of balancing progress with social responsibility. He stressed that ensuring societal well-being is a collective responsibility, not solely the government's. WAVES is envisioned as a major event that will harness the sector's potential and drive future growth.

Among the dignitaries at the event were Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Neerja Shekhar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry, Jyoti Vij, Director General of FICCI, and Biren Ghosh, Vice Chairman of the CII National Committee on Media & Entertainment.

Sanjay Jaju remarked that the initiative aligns with the Prime Minister's vision to 'Design in India, Design for the World,' as articulated during his 78th Independence Day speech.

He emphasised that WAVES would serve as a global platform, gathering top creators and thinkers from around the world to exchange ideas and push creative boundaries.

The 'Create in India Challenge–Season 1,' organized by prominent industry associations, encompasses various disciplines such as animation, filmmaking, gaming, music, and visual arts. These challenges are designed to set the stage for the main event and foster innovation in India's creative landscape.
