Central Reserve Police Force personnel on Tuesday paid their last respects to inspector Kuldeep Kumar, who was killed in a militant ambush in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
A wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the headquarters of the CRPF's 187th battalion in Battal Ballian in the district.
Additional Director General CRPF Amrit Mohan Prasad and other top commanders from other forces paid tributes to Kumar.
The civil administration, Army, and police officers also paid their respects to the slain officer.
Kumar’s mortal remains were later taken to his native place in Haryana.
He was killed on Monday when insurgents fired upon a patrol party in the remote Cheel-Dudu area of Udhampur district.
“During an area dominance patrol at Chill, Dudu, an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and joint parties of the JKP (Jammu and Kashmir Police) and CRPF.
"In the encounter, one Inspector of CRPF suffered bullet injuries and has attained martyrdom. Operation continues,” said Udhampur police.
Soon after the ambush, security personnel rushed to the spot and launched an extensive cordon and search operations at select locations in search of the attackers.
Meanwhile, searches entered their second day on Tuesday as the terrorists managed to evade security forces.
Joint teams of security forces and JKP are actively carrying out combing operations in the Udhampur district to nab the attackers.
