The Director of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), Shyam Sharma, expressed admiration for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah's decision to reward groundsmen and curators for their efforts during the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Sharma highlighted that this gesture marks the first time such recognition has been extended to ground staff in cricket. Following the culmination of IPL 2024, Jay Shah took to social media to acknowledge the tireless efforts of the ground staff who ensured the provision of excellent pitches throughout the tournament.

He announced rewards of INR 25 lakhs for groundsmen and curators at the 10 regular IPL venues and INR 10 lakhs for those at the additional three venues, as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work.

Speaking about this initiative, Shyam Sharma emphasised the significance of Jay Shah's vision, noting that it motivates every individual involved. He emphasised that the real heroes behind the scenes are the groundsmen and curators, whose hard work often goes unnoticed.

In the thrilling final match of IPL 2024 held at Chennai's Chepauk Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged victorious, securing their third IPL title and their first in a decade.

Led by an all-round performance, which included impressive spells by Mitchell Starc and Andre Russell, as well as a crucial half-century by Venkatesh Iyer, KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets.

Sunrisers, known for their aggressive batting, particularly by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, faced a tough challenge against KKR's formidable bowling attack. Despite winning the toss and opting to bat first, SRH struggled to build a substantial total and were bowled out for 113 runs in 18.3 overs.

KKR's bowlers, including Andre Russell, Mitchell Starc, and Harshit Rana, delivered exceptional performances, restricting SRH's scoring opportunities. In response, KKR chased down the target of 114 runs in just 10.3 overs, with Venkatesh Iyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz leading the charge with their explosive batting display.
