Deepika Padukone, a strong advocate for mental health awareness, responded strongly to L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan's controversial comment about making employees work on Sundays. The actress shared her thoughts on Instagram, criticising the senior executive.
Sharing a report by journalist Faye D'Souza, Deepika expressed her shock, saying, "Shocking to see people in such senior positions make such statements." She also included the hashtag #MentalHealthMatters in her post.
SN Subrahmanyan's comment sparked a heated online debate about work-life balance and mental well-being. In response, L&T issued a clarification, but Deepika was unimpressed. She shared the company's statement on her Instagram, writing, "And they just made it worse..."
The statement from L&T read: "At L&T, nation-building is at the core of our mandate. For over eight decades, we have been shaping India's infrastructure, industries, and technological capabilities. We believe this is India's decade, a time demanding collective dedication and effort to drive progress and realize our shared vision of becoming a developed nation. The Chairman's remarks reflect this larger ambition, emphasizing that extraordinary outcomes require extraordinary effort. At L&T, we remain committed to fostering a culture where passion, purpose, and performance drive us forward."

Earlier, SN Subrahmanyan had stated during an interaction, "I regret I am not able to make you work on Sundays. If I can make you work on Sundays, I will be happier, because I work on Sundays. What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can the wives stare at their husbands? Come on, get to the office and start working." This remark quickly went viral on Reddit.
Deepika, who opened up about her struggle with depression in 2015, has been a vocal advocate for mental health. Her foundation, Live Love Laugh, supports individuals dealing with mental health issues.
On a personal note, Deepika and her husband Ranveer Singh welcomed their first child in September 2024. She was last seen in Rohit Shetty's Singham Again.
