In a pointed warning delivered from the heart of Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday declared that any terror strike on Indian soil would carry “disastrous” consequences for Pakistan, adding that Operation Sindoor—India’s recent retaliatory military response—was far from over.

Speaking at Udhampur while addressing troops of the Northern Command on the occasion of International Yoga Day, Singh said India had demonstrated its growing resolve and capabilities through the recent cross-border action, which followed the brutal Pahalgam terror attack in April.

“Operation Sindoor is not over yet… Through this operation, we have told Pakistan that continuing terrorism against India will not be tolerated and the response will get from bad to worse,” the minister said, flanked by Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi.

The stern remarks come following the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir's tourist attraction, Pahalgam, where 26 people—most of them tourists—lost their lives in a heinous terrorist attack. In retaliation, Indian armed forces are understood to have targeted terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and in parts of Pakistan during the intervening night of May 6 and 7.

Describing the mission as a continuation of India’s proactive security doctrine, Singh said, “Operation Sindoor was a natural progression of 2016 surgical strike and 2019 air strike (across the border). We conveyed to Pakistan that its policy of thousand cuts against India will not succeed.”

The Defence Minister issued a stern warning to Islamabad, making it clear that India would not hesitate to act again if provoked. “Any terror attack on the soil of India will prove disastrous for Pakistan. India is ready to take any type of action against terrorism,” he said.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions in Jammu and Kashmir, following a recent spike in infiltration attempts and terror-related incidents. The reference to Operation Sindoor suggests a shift from covert messaging to open signalling, aimed both at domestic reassurance and external deterrence.

Although official details of the operation remain classified, sources have indicated that India’s retaliatory strikes involved precision targeting of camps and launchpads used by terror groups backed by elements within Pakistan’s security establishment.
