The Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence Meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for the department was conducted on December 17th, 2024 at New Delhi.
The meeting was on the integrated description of operation and performance of newly formed DPSUs envisaged under the process of corporatisation of erstwhile OFB.
As these new DPSUs, they are tasked with issues of indigenisation of defence products, modernisation of production of the DPSUs and fostering of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
In the course of the meeting, members of the committee were given comprehensive briefings about several important spheres. These were financial results, modernisation activities, capital investment, export sales, new products, and operating R&D programs.
Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh has also admitted, although these changes have been positive and brought revolutionary reforms, increase in productivity and quality has been visible only after the corporatisation of the factories head start.
He credited the new DPSUs for their keenness to push for indigenisation in defence production saying that they are the drivers to make India ‘Aatmanirbhar’ in the defence sector.
Singh congratulated the government for establishing the two new DPSUs and stated that the two new forms would further the momentum of modernization and indigenization in the country and act as yardsticks in enhancing the quality, turnover, profitability and overall performance in the coming days.
He also added that these entities are turning toward world class technologies to deliver the requirements of the modern defence productions.
Singh underlined that the government’s plans for these DPSUs are aimed at increasing India’s defense capacity and turning the country into a leading manufacturer of defence products.
Among the important topics for discussion at the meeting were those concerning human resources management within the new DPSUs. Issues discussed included the following key questions Several committee members expressed concern on some of the HR issues emanating from the corporatisation process.
In response, he informed the committee that all these concerns are being handled adequately through continuous engagement with the concerned players. He thanked the committee members for the suggestion saying that such suggestions would be considered for use in the future.
It was also attended by some other officials from the Ministry of Defence believed to be in senior positions.
Publishing of New DPSUs MoS Defence Shri Sanjay Seth, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Secretary of Defence Production Shri Sanjeev Kumar and other officials of MoD were present to give an update on current standing and future of new DPSUs.
These lobbying key stakeholders underline the continuous process of changing the defence production map of India.
