The Defence Ministry has taken exception and strongly objected to what it says misrepresentation of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks in Parliament during his address last year in July on Social Media.
The ministry said that certain posts circulating on social media platforms have sought to misrepresent Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s address delivered on the floor of Parliament on 28 July last year. The Ministry said these posts have selectively quoted an isolated portion of the speech to falsely imply that Singh claimed that no Indian soldier lost his life during Operation Sindoor.
Explaining the context of the Defence Minister’s remarks, the Ministry said that at the time of his address, a persistent and dominant narrative had emerged in certain sections of the media and on social media claiming that Indian pilots had been lost during Operation Sindoor. The Ministry said this narrative was entirely false, yet it was being amplified aggressively with the intent of undermining the success of the operation and demoralising public sentiment.
It added that it was in direct reference to this specific narrative that the Defence Minister made the statement in question, which was a targeted and context-specific response to a false claim gaining traction at that time. The Ministry stated that Rajnath Singh’s remarks were, therefore, part of a broader and accurate account of the success of Operation Sindoor. It said that during the operation, more than 100 terrorists and Pakistani soldiers were neutralised, while Pakistani air bases and military deployments along the Line of Control suffered extensive damage.
The Ministry further highlighted that the Defence Minister and the Government remain steadfast in their respect, gratitude and reverence for every member of the Indian Defence Forces, especially those who have laid down their lives in service of the nation. It added that, in recognition of their supreme sacrifice, their names have been inscribed on the walls of the National War Memorial. The Government has also taken steps to provide concessions in education, health and other facilities to the families and dependents of the bravehearts.
