Atishi, Delhi's Minister of Water, has demanded action from Lt Governor V K Saxena following the tragic death of a woman in Farsh Bazar, northeast Delhi, amidst a dispute over water usage from a common tap. In her letter, Atishi called for the suspension of the CEO of Delhi Jal Board and an independent inquiry into the actions of various government officials.

The incident occurred when a 15-year-old girl allegedly stabbed her 34-year-old neighbour after a dispute over access to water from a shared tap, highlighting the severity of the water crisis in the area.

Atishi accused the Chief Secretary and officers from the Finance Department, Urban Development Department, and DJB of neglecting their duties, resulting in a shortage of funds for DJB's essential projects, such as installing borewells.

Despite clear directives from the Chief Minister and repeated reminders from Atishi herself, no significant action was taken to address the water scarcity issue, she claimed. This failure has led to dire consequences, including loss of life, which Atishi attributes to the negligence of government officers.

Atishi's letter to the Lt Governor emphasises the urgent need for accountability and swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future. She called for the immediate suspension of the DJB CEO and disciplinary measures against all officers responsible for the water crisis.

Furthermore, Atishi urged the Lt Governor to send a clear message to government officials that negligence and inaction will not be tolerated. The people of Delhi, she emphasised, are looking to the Lt Governor for decisive action to address the water scarcity issue and ensure the safety of residents.

Atishi's efforts underscore the pressing need for effective governance and proactive measures to address the water crisis in Delhi, safeguarding the well-being of its residents.
