Delhi is experiencing a gradual increase in air pollution levels as temperatures continue to drop in the national capital, with the air quality recorded in the “moderate” category. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded a minimum temperature of 19.6 degrees Celsius, which is 1.4 degrees below the seasonal norm.
On Saturday, Delhi’s minimum temperature was 19.4 degrees Celsius, while on Friday, the city saw its first drop below the 20-degree Celsius mark for the 2025-26 winter season, recording a low of 18.8 degrees Celsius. At 9 am on Sunday, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was measured at 162, falling within the “moderate” category, showing a slight improvement from the 24-hour AQI of 199 recorded on Saturday.
The IMD forecasted mainly clear skies for Sunday, with the maximum temperature expected to reach around 31 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity at 8:30 am was recorded at 79 per cent.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between 0 and 50 is classified as “good”, 51 to 100 as “satisfactory”, 101 to 200 as “moderate”, 201 to 300 as “poor”, 301 to 400 as “very poor”, and 401 to 500 as “severe”.
