Anil Sharma demands renaming Mohammadpur as Madhavpuram.

BJP MLAs in Delhi are pushing for renaming certain areas, arguing that the proposed changes reflect public demand and historical significance.

Anil Sharma, BJP MLA from RK Puram, has stated that he will push for renaming Mohammadpur village as Madhavpuram.

He claimed that the proposal had been approved by the municipal corporation long ago but was stalled under the previous Aam Aadmi Party government. Now that BJP is in power, he plans to take up the matter at the earliest opportunity.

According to Sharma, residents of Mohammadpur have been demanding that their village be renamed. He believes that since the Delhi government is a people's government, such demands should be met.

He added that he would present the proposal in the Assembly at the first available opportunity. If allowed by the Speaker, he intends to formally raise the matter soon.

Another BJP MLA, Neelam Pehelwan, has also submitted a renaming proposal for her constituency, Najafgarh, seeking to rename it as Nahargarh.

She cited historical reasons, mentioning that Najafgarh was once under the control of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II, and during that period, people in the region faced oppression.

She also highlighted the role of Raja Nahar Singh during the 1857 rebellion, stating that he played a significant part in bringing Najafgarh under Delhi's administration.

Pehelwan said that efforts to rename Najafgarh had been made earlier, including by former MP Parvesh Verma, but had not materialised. She asserted that renaming the area would be a tribute to those who fought for their rights and would hold deep significance for the people living there.

Both proposals reflect the BJP leaders' emphasis on renaming places in Delhi, a trend that has been seen in different parts of the country as well.

While supporters of the renaming argue that these changes honour historical figures and local sentiment, critics often view them as politically motivated moves aimed at reshaping historical narratives.

The final decision on these proposals will depend on the legislative process and the approval of the concerned authorities. However, with BJP MLAs actively pushing for these changes, the debate over renaming places in Delhi is likely to continue in the coming days.
