Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday flagged off 1,111 water tankers for the Jal Board, announcing that the GPS-enabled tankers can now be tracked through a mobile application.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday flagged off 1,111 water tankers for the Jal Board, announcing that the GPS-enabled tankers can now be tracked through a mobile application.

Gupta emphasised that this move aims to bring transparency and efficiency in water distribution across the city. She stated that people would now be able to monitor the real-time location and routes of the tankers using the dedicated tanker app, ensuring accountability in the supply process.

Targeting the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Gupta alleged that the water distribution system was previously plagued by corruption and controlled by a so-called "tanker mafia."

She said the routes and final destinations of the water tankers were unclear under the previous administration, leading to widespread leakage and misuse of resources.

According to her, the new government is committed to delivering clean water to the people in a transparent and traceable manner. With GPS-enabled vehicles, every movement of the tankers can now be recorded and monitored by the public, she added.

On Saturday, Gupta also addressed concerns over the construction of structurally weak buildings in Delhi, urging strict action against officials and builders responsible for violating construction norms.

Speaking to the media, she highlighted the seriousness of the issue, stressing that officers who allowed such violations should be held accountable along with the contractors or builders involved. She called for all unsafe buildings in the city to be officially identified and action taken to prevent further tragedies.

Her remarks came a day after a tragic building collapse in Mustafabad claimed the lives of four people. Expressing her condolences, the Chief Minister called the incident deeply saddening and urged for urgent measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
