Arvind Kejriwal's Custody Extended Till August 20th as CBI Case Progresses.

On Thursday, the Rouse Avenue court extended Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case. The extension is set until August 20. Kejriwal appeared before the court via video conferencing from Tihar Jail, where he is currently held.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja granted the extension after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) requested it. This decision follows the CBI’s filing of a charge sheet against Kejriwal on July 29. He was initially arrested on June 26 by the CBI in this case.

Earlier in the month, on July 12, Kejriwal received interim bail in a related money laundering case from the Supreme Court. Before that, he had been granted regular bail by a trial court on June 20. His arrest in the money laundering case occurred in March, and a supplementary charge sheet was subsequently filed against him.

In the broader Delhi Excise Policy case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also arrested several individuals, including Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and BRS leader K Kavitha. The ED has sought to cancel Kejriwal’s bail, leading to recent hearings in the Delhi High Court.

During these proceedings, the High Court has questioned the ED’s request for bail cancellation, particularly concerning the potential for Kejriwal’s re-arrest. The court’s confusion reflects concerns about the implications of such a move.

As the legal process continues, the extension of Kejriwal’s judicial custody underscores the ongoing scrutiny of his involvement in these cases. The judicial and enforcement agencies are actively working to resolve the complex issues surrounding the Delhi Excise Policy and related allegations.
