Delhi and nearby areas are bracing for a cold wave as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a significant drop in temperatures this week.
The city is expected to see a minimum temperature of around 6°C, with daytime highs hovering near 25°C. Delhi recorded its coldest morning of the season on Saturday and its second-lowest daytime temperature of 23.7°C on Sunday.
Cold wave conditions are predicted for Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh until December 14. Neighboring Himachal Pradesh has already seen its first snowfall of the season in Shimla, Kufri, and Fagu.
Delhi Air Quality:
The air quality in Delhi remains poor, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 212 as of this morning, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Poor air quality poses health risks, particularly for sensitive groups and individuals with respiratory conditions.
Delhi's air pollution worsens during winter due to cold air trapping pollutants such as dust, emissions, and smoke from stubble burning in neighboring Punjab and Haryana. The CPCB categorises AQI between 201 and 300 as "poor," while levels above 400 are classified as "severe."
The chilly temperatures and ongoing air quality issues highlight the dual challenges Delhi faces during winter. Residents are advised to prepare for colder conditions and take precautions against poor air quality.
