Delhi LG Orders Probe Into Coaching Center Tragedy.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena expressed deep sorrow over the death of three civil services aspirants due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching centre in Delhi. He described the incident as both "unfortunate and unacceptable," emphasising that such occurrences should not happen in the capital of India.

The tragedy has prompted swift action from the authorities. Saxena has directed the Divisional Commissioner to submit a comprehensive report on the incident by Tuesday.

He stated that the issues leading to this incident cannot be ignored any longer. Saxena assured that those responsible for the loss of lives will be held accountable and brought to justice. He emphasised that while nothing can compensate for the loss of young lives, it is crucial to ensure that those who caused this tragedy face consequences.

The incident occurred on Saturday in the basement of a popular IAS coaching institute in Delhi’s Old Rajender Nagar, where three UPSC aspirants drowned due to flooding. In response, Delhi police have arrested the owner and coordinator of the coaching centre.

The deceased were identified as Shreya Yadav from Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nivin Dalwin from Kerala’s Ernakulam. The families of the deceased have been informed, and the bodies have been sent to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal expressed her outrage over the delay in action against the officials responsible for the incident. She stressed that the deaths should be termed as "murder" rather than a disaster, highlighting the negligence and mismanagement involved.

Maliwal called for an FIR to be filed against the government officials, noting that no minister from the Delhi government, the mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, or any other officer had responded even hours after the incident.

Maliwal voiced the anger and sadness of the students, criticising the lack of immediate response from the authorities. She argued that the incident was not just a disaster but a result of gross negligence and called for stringent actions against those responsible. Maliwal’s statements underscored the frustration and grief felt by the affected families and the community at large.

The deaths of the three civil services aspirants have shed light on the urgent need for better safety measures and stricter regulations for coaching centres operating in Delhi.

The incident also raises questions about the preparedness of the city’s infrastructure to handle emergencies, especially in areas frequented by students and young professionals.

As the investigation progresses, the focus will be on identifying the lapses that led to this tragic incident and ensuring that such a catastrophe does not recur. The call for accountability and justice for the deceased students is strong, and the authorities are under pressure to act swiftly and decisively.

The deaths of the civil services aspirants in Delhi have sparked a wave of grief and anger, with demands for accountability and stricter safety measures. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by students and the urgent need for systemic improvements to prevent such tragedies in the future.
