A day after Prime Minister Narender Modi gave call for austerity measures, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood on Tuesday appeared to follow his appeal for reduced fuel consumption by choosing public and electric transport during an official visit in the national capital.
In the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging citizens to rely on public transport amid the ongoing West Asia crisis, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood travelled by Delhi Metro and later took an e-rickshaw for a school interaction visit in east Delhi.
Sood was seen interacting with commuters during his metro journey and later boarding an e-rickshaw after getting stuck in traffic. The minister’s visit was part of an interaction programme with heads of schools at CM Shri School in Surajmal Vihar. He was scheduled to hold an interaction programme with school principals and administrators.
Addressing a rally organised by the Telangana BJP in Hyderabad on Sunday, Modi had urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption and make greater use of public transport systems. He suggested increased use of metro rail services in cities, carpooling, electric vehicles, railway parcel services and work-from-home arrangements to help conserve foreign exchange amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia.
He urged citizens to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel in view of the continuing crisis in West Asia and the pressure it has placed on India’s foreign exchange reserves. He had encouraged wider use of metro services in urban centres, carpooling, electric vehicles, railway-based logistics, and work-from-home practices as measures to cut fuel consumption and conserve foreign exchange.
PM Modi’s austerity call on different fronts also drew reactions from opposition parties and other stakeholders in the business sector, even though it was widely welcomed by the people.
