Over 35000 arrested in Delhi police crackdown on MCC.

Delhi police have made significant strides in maintaining law and order during the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the upcoming Delhi elections.

Over the course of the operation, which ran from January 7 to February 5, 2025, the police arrested more than 35,000 individuals and made several key seizures.

During this period, a total of 1,098 cases were registered for violations of the MCC, showcasing the authorities' commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent election process.

Among the notable seizures were 475 unlicensed firearms and 534 cartridges. In connection with these weapons, the police arrested 496 individuals, further emphasising the severity of the crackdown.

Another major concern during the operation was the illegal liquor trade. Authorities confiscated an impressive 114,699 litres of liquor.

In total, 1,423 people were arrested for liquor-related offences, highlighting the police's proactive approach in preventing any illegal activities that could potentially disrupt the electoral process.

The police operation also led to the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs. A total of 206.712 kg of narcotics, valued at over Rs 77.9 crore, were confiscated, alongside 1,200 drug injections.

These efforts were backed by the arrest of 179 individuals for drug-related offences, sending a strong message against the illegal drug trade and its potential influence on voters.

Cash and precious metals were also seized during the operation. In one of the most significant seizures, Delhi police confiscated Rs 11,70,29,927 in cash, along with 0.850 kg of gold and 37.396 kg of silver.

These actions were part of an ongoing effort to prevent the misuse of money and materials to sway voters.

In terms of preventive measures, the Delhi Police arrested 35,020 individuals under various provisions and other acts, strengthening their presence and ensuring that the election environment remains secure.

Meanwhile, the exit polls, conducted after voting concluded on February 5, have shown varied predictions regarding the outcome of the Delhi elections.

One poll suggested that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could win between 51 and 60 out of the 70 assembly seats, while two polls predicted a victory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). These polls indicate a high-stakes contest, as Delhi gears up for a dramatic election outcome.

Delhi has a registered electorate of 1,561,400, with 837,617 males, 723,656 females, and 1,267 third-gender voters.

Among them, 239,905 are first-time voters aged 18-19, 109,368 are elderly voters aged 85 and above, and 79,885 are persons with disabilities.

These demographic statistics further highlight the diverse nature of the voter base in the capital.

As the counting day approaches on February 8, all eyes are on the final results, which will determine the future of Delhi’s government.

AAP has dominated the last two assembly elections in Delhi, but with the intense efforts made by both political parties during this election campaign, the outcome remains uncertain.
