Arvind Kejriwal blamed as BJP sweeps Delhi elections.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has faced a significant electoral defeat in Delhi, prompting sharp criticism from former party leader Prashant Bhushan. He squarely blamed Arvind Kejriwal for the loss, calling it the beginning of the party’s downfall.

Bhushan, who was expelled from AAP in 2015, accused Kejriwal of abandoning the party’s founding principles and leading it into corruption and authoritarianism.

Bhushan took to social media to express his disappointment, stating that AAP was initially built on the principles of transparency, accountability, and alternative politics.

However, under Kejriwal’s leadership, it became a one-man show, losing its democratic values. He alleged that the party, which once stood against corruption, had now become no different from the ones it opposed.

One of the key issues that Bhushan highlighted was the controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s residence. The former Delhi Chief Minister was accused of spending ₹45 crore on renovating his official bungalow, which became a major campaign issue in the elections.

Bhushan criticised Kejriwal for living a life of luxury while claiming to be a leader of the common man. He also accused him of discarding expert policy recommendations and relying on populism and propaganda instead of genuine governance.

Bhushan’s remarks were echoed by veteran activist Anna Hazare, who also took a dig at Kejriwal. Hazare, who had once worked closely with him during the anti-corruption movement, questioned his shift from humble beginnings to a lavish lifestyle.

He recalled Kejriwal’s past promises of living in a simple house and said true happiness lies in serving the people, not in luxury.

Hazare had previously criticised AAP for straying from its original path and prioritising power over public service. He suggested that the party’s decline was inevitable because it had lost the trust of the people.

AAP’s loss in Delhi marks a significant political shift, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a strong comeback after 27 years. The BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP was reduced to just 22. Even Kejriwal himself failed to secure his seat, dealing a further blow to the party.

Despite the setback, Kejriwal accepted the results and congratulated the BJP. He expressed hope that the new government would work in the best interest of the people.

However, political analysts believe that this defeat has raised serious questions about AAP’s future and its ability to remain a key player in Delhi’s political landscape.
