The Delhi Economic Survey 2023-24, unveiled by Finance Minister Atishi in the Delhi Assembly, sheds light on the impressive footfall figures recorded at some of the city's most renowned monuments.
Among the centrally-protected monuments, the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and Humayun’s Tomb have emerged as the top attractions, drawing in a significant number of domestic visitors throughout the year.
In 2023 alone, the Red Fort welcomed a staggering 22.01 lakh domestic tourists, followed closely by Qutub Minar with 15.24 lakh visitors, and Humayun's Tomb with 10.81 lakh tourists.
Delhi's allure extends beyond its historical sites, as evidenced by its substantial appeal to foreign tourists. Ranking fourth among all states and Union Territories, Delhi recorded a footfall of 8.20 lakh foreign visitors in 2022.
The city serves as a pivotal gateway for international travelers, with its airports and land check posts prominently featuring among the top entry points for foreign tourist arrivals.
The Economic Survey highlights the resilience of Delhi's tourism sector, which experienced a notable surge in domestic tourism from 2012 to 2019. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic precipitated a temporary downturn in tourist footfall, reflecting the global impact of the crisis.
