The Delhi Traffic Police have implemented extensive measures to manage the expected influx of Kanwariyas during the annual Kanwar Yatra. The yatra is a significant event for devotees who travel to pilgrimage sites, and this year’s gathering is anticipated to be particularly large, with estimates suggesting that around 15 to 20 lakh Kanwariyas will pass through Delhi.
The Traffic Police have issued an advisory to help commuters navigate the potential disruptions. They anticipate that Kanwariyas will set up roadside camps, which is likely to create congestion on several major roads.
The advisory highlights key areas where traffic is expected to be impacted, including Najafgarh Firni, Rohtak Road, Pankha Road, Dev Prakash, Shastri Marg, Nangloi-Najafgarh Road, Outer Ring Road, Rani Jhansi Road, and Mathura Road, among others. Traffic delays are also anticipated at Azad Market Chowk and Boulevard Road.
To manage the flow of traffic, particularly at border crossings, there will be diversions. For instance, vehicles heading towards Apsara Border and Maharajpur Border will be rerouted to Ghazipur, which could lead to additional congestion on NH-24.
The Traffic Police have put in place detailed arrangements to separate the movement of Kanwariyas from regular traffic. Their aim is to reduce the inconvenience for both pilgrims and the general public.
Measures include increased traffic management personnel and the implementation of alternate routes to ensure smoother travel for everyone.
In preparation for the large number of devotees, the Delhi Traffic Police are urging commuters to plan their journeys in advance and to stay informed about possible road closures or diversions. This proactive approach aims to facilitate a safer and more organised Kanwar Yatra experience for all involved.
