Dense fog engulfs Delhi NCR, disrupts visibility & flights

Dense fog blanketed Delhi and NCR on Saturday morning, reducing visibility to near zero on the DND flyover.

The minimum temperature for Saturday, February 1, is expected to settle at 10 degree Celsius.


Thick fog covered Delhi and NCR on Saturday morning, reducing visibility to almost zero. Roads, flights, and train services were affected due to the heavy fog.


Delhi Weather Today: Low Temperature and Poor Air Quality


At 7 AM, Delhi's temperature was recorded at 11.2°C, while the air quality index (AQI) stood at 353, indicating very poor air quality.


Several areas, including Barapullah flyover, India Gate, and the Delhi-Jaipur highway, experienced low visibility due to the dense fog.


Delhi Airport Issues Advisory


The Indira Gandhi International Airport warned passengers about possible flight delays. In a post on X, it stated that while landings and takeoffs continue, flights that are not CAT III compliant may be affected. Travelers were advised to check with airlines for updates.


Delhi Fog February 1: Weather Forecast and Temperature Trends


According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Saturday's minimum temperature is expected to be 10°C, while the maximum could reach 26°C. The city is likely to see dense fog throughout the day.


January was unusually warm, with Friday’s temperature hitting 27°C, the highest in January since 2019. The average high temperature for the month was 21.1°C, slightly above the usual 20.1°C.

Why Was January Warmer?


Weather expert Mahesh Palawat explained that the warmer January was due to a lack of strong western disturbances. If such systems had occurred, Delhi would have seen colder temperatures and icy winds.


Delhi Air Quality to Improve After February 3


The AQI forecast suggests that Delhi's air quality will remain very poor until February 3. However, slight improvement is expected afterward, with pollution levels dropping to the "poor" category in the following days.
