A bus carrying Kanwariyas collided with a vehicle transporting gas cylinders in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district early on Monday, resulting in multiple fatalities, officials said. Six people died and as many as 24 were injured in the accident.
Inspector General (Dumka Zone) Shailendra Kumar Sinha said the 32-seater bus, which was carrying Kanwariyas, collided with the truck near Jamuniya forest under the jurisdiction of Mohanpur police station in Deoghar at around 4.30 am. Traffic Deputy SP Laxman Prasad said the injured had been sent to hospitals for treatment.
While BJP MP Nishikant Dubey initially claimed that 18 people had died in the crash, Jharkhand health minister Dr Irfan Ansari said the official death toll stood at six.
Chief minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over the mishap, stating that the district administration is actively conducting rescue operations and providing medical relief.
