Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has issued a stern warning to his grandson Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of rape. Gowda has demanded that Prajwal return to India and surrender to the police, or face severe consequences.
Taking to social media, Gowda expressed his frustration and disappointment. He posted a letter on X (formerly Twitter) on May 23, 2024, with the title "My Warning To Prajwal Revanna."
In his post, he emphasised that Prajwal should not test his patience any further and must submit himself to the legal process.
Gowda revealed that he had spoken to the media about Prajwal on May 18, during a visit to a temple. He explained that the scandal had caused him significant shock and pain, affecting not only him but also his entire family, colleagues, friends, and party workers.
The former prime minister did not mince words when he stated that Prajwal should face the harshest of punishments for his actions. He mentioned that his son, former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, also supported this stance.
Gowda acknowledged the public outrage and criticism that had been directed towards him and his family since the scandal broke. He expressed his understanding of the public's harsh words and chose not to counter their opinions or ask for patience until all facts were uncovered.
On the same day, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took action by writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Siddaramaiah requested the cancellation of Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport.
This move comes as Prajwal remains absconding following the emergence of the alleged sex scandal last month. According to sources, the Karnataka government's request is currently being processed by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The situation has brought considerable distress to the Deve Gowda family and has stirred significant public and political reaction. The demand for justice and accountability is clear, and all eyes are now on the legal proceedings and the response from the authorities regarding Prajwal Revanna's return and subsequent trial.
