India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has suspended the approval of Alchemist Aviation following a safety audit triggered by a fatal trainee aircraft accident in Jharkhand recently.

The suspension comes just days after a crash on August 20 claimed the lives of an instructor and a trainee pilot.

A special safety audit conducted on August 23 and 24 revealed multiple serious deficiencies and non-compliance with regulatory standards, the DGCA said in a statement on Thursday.

The Jamshedpur-based Alchemist Aviation operates local flying training at Sonari Airport in Jharkhand.

According to the regulator, the approval granted to Alchemist Aviation as a Flying Training Organisation (FTO) has been revoked due to significant lapses in safety protocols.

"The FTO will have to undergo a comprehensive rectification process to meet all mandatory compliance requirements," the DGCA stated.

The suspension is been seen as a critical move to ensure that flying training organisations adhere to stringent safety regulations, especially after the recent tragedy in Jharkhand where two lives were claimed raising questions about operational safety standards.
