A local family in Jammu’s Doda district described a terrifying encounter with a terror suspect on the night of July 15, as per reports.
The incident occurred as security forces chased militants into dense forests before an encounter in which four soldiers, including an Army officer, were killed on July 16.
A woman from the family recounted to reporters, “While I was sleeping inside my house, someone started banging at my door. I assumed it was my father.
“But when I opened the door, it was someone else. I quickly closed the door. I was terrified, and my mother and children were also frightened. I called my brother, who, along with my sister-in-law, rushed to help.”
Her brother confronted the suspicious man at the door. “When my sister called and told me about a suspicious man trying to break into the house around 5 am, I quickly got there.
“I saw a tall person standing at the door. When I asked him to identify himself, he claimed it was his house. I punched him, but he dodged my blow. When I picked up a stone to hit him, he ran into the forests.”
The brother described the suspect as a six-foot-tall man wearing a uniform similar to the Army’s but holding no weapon.
“At first, I thought he was a drug addict, but the agility he showed in fleeing into the jungles proved he was trained.
“ I quickly called my brother, who is in the Army, and a search operation was launched in the village.”
He also noted that a similar incident of door-knocking was reported in the adjoining village.
Last month, terrorists involved in the Kathua attack went door-to-door asking for water in a village, which made locals suspicious.
Some villagers slammed their doors shut, while others sounded an alarm. The panicked terrorists then opened fire.
Security forces subsequently gunned down a terrorist and launched a hunt for another.
