In a tragic incident in Pune, Maharashtra, a truck ran over a group of people sleeping on a footpath, killing two children and a man in the early hours of Monday. The victims were identified as Vaibhavi Pawar (1), Vaibhav Pawar (2), and Vishal Pawar (22).
According to the police, the incident occurred around 12:30 am near Kesnand Phata, where many labourers were resting on the footpath. Six others were injured in the accident and were taken to Sassoon General Hospital.
The police have detained the truck driver and are investigating whether he was drunk at the time of the incident.
A similar tragedy occurred in Mumbai on Saturday evening when a speeding SUV crushed a four-year-old boy, Aayush Kinawade, to death in the Wadala area. The boy's father, Laxman Kinawade, is a labourer. The child and his family lived in a makeshift hut on the footpath.

The 19-year-old driver of a Hyundai Creta had parked the SUV near the family's hut. When the driver was called to pick up the vehicle's owner, he took a U-turn, and the boy was hit by the car's left front tire.
This follows a similar incident on December 9, when a driver of a BEST bus in Mumbai's Kurla area ran over several pedestrians, killing nine and injuring others.
The Pune footpath accident, like these recent incidents, highlights the dangers faced by people sleeping on footpaths, and investigations into these accidents are ongoing.
