Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated an e-auction featuring over 600 gifts and mementoes he received during various public events. The collection includes a wide range of items, such as sculptures, traditional art, regional artefacts, indigenous crafts, and sports memorabilia from the 2024 Paralympic Games. This auction allows the public to own a piece of these significant gifts while contributing to a greater cause.
The auction is open to all interested individuals, who can participate by registering on the official website, PM Mementos, at https://pmmementos.gov.in/. PM Modi expressed his delight at the auction’s commencement in a post on X, inviting people to bid on the items they find interesting.
He also highlighted the charitable aspect of the auction, as the proceeds will go to the Namami Gange initiative, a project dedicated to the conservation and rejuvenation of the Ganga River.
Every year, PM Modi auctions the mementoes he receives, using the proceeds to support public welfare causes. This year’s auction is no different, with funds directed towards Namami Gange, a comprehensive government mission to clean and restore the Ganga River, which holds great cultural and environmental significance in India.
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also highlighted the dual purpose of the auction. He stated that participants not only get the chance to preserve a piece of history but also gain the satisfaction of contributing to a meaningful cause. Shekhawat shared this message in a post on X, emphasising the importance of this initiative for public welfare.
The auction began on September 17 and will continue until October 2, giving bidders ample time to browse and bid on the unique collection. People can visit the National Gallery of Modern Art at Jaipur House in New Delhi to view the items in person. The gallery is open to the public from 11 AM to 6 PM, where the mementoes are on display.
This initiative reflects PM Modi’s commitment to using personal gifts for public benefit, turning even symbolic gestures into opportunities for meaningful contribution.
The Namami Gange Project, which the proceeds will support, is a crucial effort aimed at reducing pollution in the Ganga and restoring its ecosystem. The project has gained momentum over the years and continues to be a focal point for environmental conservation efforts in India.
The auction presents an opportunity for citizens to participate in a unique cause while acquiring a keepsake from PM Modi’s vast collection of mementoes. The inclusion of sports memorabilia from the Paralympic Games further adds to the significance of the items up for auction, underscoring the connection between national pride, cultural heritage, and social welfare.
As the auction progresses, it is expected to attract significant interest from collectors, art enthusiasts, and those looking to contribute to the Namami Gange mission.
By linking the auction to a cause as important as the conservation of the Ganga River, the government has ensured that this initiative not only celebrates Indian heritage but also fosters a sense of collective responsibility towards the environment.
