External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar bid farewell to Egyptian Ambassador Wael Hamed on Wednesday, acknowledging his significant role in strengthening India-Egypt relations. Jaishankar expressed his gratitude for Hamed’s efforts in advancing the bilateral ties between the two nations.
In a post shared on X, Jaishankar conveyed his appreciation, saying, "Pleased to receive Egyptian Ambassador Wael Hamed for his farewell call. Thank him for his contribution in advancing ties. Wish him the best for his future endeavours."
India and Egypt, two of the world's oldest civilizations, have long shared a strong relationship, rooted in their rich histories. This partnership spans various domains, including political cooperation on both bilateral and global issues. The ties between the two countries have been further solidified through high-profile visits and collaborations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Egypt in June 2023 marked a significant milestone in the relationship. During this visit, Modi was honoured with Egypt’s highest civilian award, the "Order of the Nile," underscoring the depth of the bilateral relationship. The visit also highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership.
In July, Jaishankar participated in a commemorative event in New Delhi celebrating Egypt’s National Day, where he reiterated India's commitment to enhancing bilateral relations. This event was a testament to the enduring partnership between India and Egypt.
Jaishankar also noted the significance of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s participation as the Chief Guest at India's 74th Republic Day celebrations in 2023.
This visit, along with Modi’s subsequent official trip to Egypt, elevated the bilateral relationship to a strategic level, reflecting the growing collaboration between the two nations.
