India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, on Sunday met with a US congressional delegation comprising US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, US Reps Mike Rogers and others to discuss the India-US bilateral ties and several other global issues of concern.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said Congressional interactions have always been “an important facet” of the India-US relationship. The EAM said Adam Smith of Washington state and Jimmy Patronis of Florida were also a part of the delegation.
The meeting comes amid a series of sustained high-level interactions between New Delhi and Washington, while the fate of the India-US bilateral trade agreement (BTA) hangs in the air.
Gor, who had said after concluding his Mumbai visit on January 18, that there was growing partnership between India and the United States across trade, technology, education, energy and resilient supply chains, took to his social media handle on X to term the latest discussions as being “productive”.
“Just wrapped a productive meeting with EAM @DrSJaishankar, @RepMikeRogersAL, @RepAdamSmith, and @JimmyPatronis on ways to strengthen U.S.-India partnership for stronger security, expanded trade, and cooperation on critical technologies,” he wrote.
Earlier on January 19, Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, had met US Senator, Steve Daines, and Ambassador Gor for a “productive exchange” on the bilateral relationship between India and the US.
“Delighted to again meet my good friends US Senator @SteveDaines and the US Ambassador to India @SergioGor. Had a productive exchange of views on our bilateral relationship,” Goyal posted on X.
Jaishankar had also held a meeting with Daines on January 18, and said they had had a “wide-ranging and open discussion” on bilateral relationship.

“A pleasure meeting Senator @SteveDaines this morning in Delhi. A wide-ranging and open discussion on our bilateral relationship and its strategic significance,” the EAM said.
On January 13, the MEA provided more insight into the first conversation between Jaishankar and US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, during which the two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including trade, critical minerals, defence, civil nuclear cooperation and energy, and also exchanged perspectives on regional developments.
“This conversation happened on the 13th of January. This was the first conversation between the two leaders. They discussed a range of bilateral issues, including trade, critical minerals, defence, civil nuclear cooperation, and energy. They also exchanged perspectives on regional developments,” said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson, MEA.
