EAM Jaishankar Expresses Gratitude To Pakistan Leaders.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently concluded his visit to Islamabad, where he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. Upon departing for Delhi, Jaishankar expressed gratitude to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for their hospitality. In a message posted on X, he conveyed his appreciation for the courtesies extended by the government of Pakistan.

During his address at the 23rd Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of introspection regarding the friendship between India and Pakistan.

He remarked that it is crucial to examine whether the relationship has met expectations and whether the spirit of good neighbourliness is being upheld. He underscored that as we reflect on the progress made since the inception of the SCO charter, it is vital to engage in honest discussions about the current state of affairs.

Jaishankar pointed out that if trust is lacking and cooperation is insufficient, it is essential to understand the reasons behind these shortcomings. He emphasised that reaffirming commitment to the SCO Charter is key to realising the potential benefits of cooperation and integration within the region.

Addressing the challenges faced by both nations, he identified cross-border terrorism, extremism, and separatism as the "three evils" that hinder trade and people-to-people relations.

This statement served as a veiled reference to Pakistan, where he suggested that activities characterised by these issues would not foster an environment conducive to trade, energy cooperation, or enhanced connectivity.

The minister further remarked on the global shift towards a multi-polar world, acknowledging that the realities of globalisation and rebalancing present numerous opportunities for trade, investment, and collaboration.

He emphasised that the region could benefit greatly from these developments and that mutual efforts could inspire others beyond the immediate geographic area.

Jaishankar's visit and remarks reflect a continued commitment to dialogue while recognizing the complexities that underlie India-Pakistan relations. His message resonates with the need for a more profound understanding of the barriers to cooperation and the possibilities that lie ahead if both nations can navigate their differences constructively.
