Eastern Railway (ER) recorded its highest-ever freight loading achievement of 54.888 million tonnes from April to October in the current fiscal year.
This performance marks a significant increase of 22.4 per cent over the corresponding period last year, according to an official release issued on Wednesday.
ER’s freight earnings also saw an impressive surge of 30.68 per cent, totalling Rs 5,102.46 crore, compared to Rs 3,904.34 crore during the same period last year, as per the statement.
A substantial share of this freight came from coal, accounting for 38.947 million tonnes of the total 54.888 million tonnes loaded from April to October.
This growth highlights ER’s strengthened role in supporting industrial and power demands through its coal transportation capacity.
