The Election Commission on Sunday issued a notice to senior BJP leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha for allegedly holding two voter identity cards and being registered in two different constituencies.
The action came amid a heated row over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav accused Sinha of possessing two voter IDs from separate assembly constituencies and demanded action.
“A notice has been served to Sinha for allegedly possessing two voter cards. He has been asked to explain why he has two voter IDs,” an official told the reporters.
Yadav claimed that Sinha’s name appears in both the Lakhisarai assembly constituency and the Bankipur assembly constituency in Patna district, with two separate EPIC numbers and even differing ages — 57 in one list and 60 in another.
He alleged that the matter arose after the SIR process, questioning whether the responsibility lay with Sinha or the Election Commission, and demanding Sinha’s resignation.
Even RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav weighed in, posting documents on X which he said showed Sinha’s name listed in two constituencies.
“An alleged criminal case arises against Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha for being a voter in multiple constituencies even after the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls. Will the Election Commission register a criminal case against him?” Lalu wrote.
Reacting to the allegations, Sinha said that while his name earlier appeared in Bankipur, he had applied in April 2024 to have it added to the Lakhisarai voter list and simultaneously sought removal from Bankipur. He said he had official receipts proving he submitted the application to the Booth Level Officer.
“Earlier, my name and my family members’ names were listed in Bankipur. In April 2024, I applied to add my name to Lakhisarai and filled a form to remove our names from Bankipur. For some reason, my name was not deleted from Bankipur and appeared in the draft electoral roll. I called the Booth Level Officer and submitted a written application with a receipt seeking deletion from Bankipur. I have both documents,” Sinha told reporters.
He insisted he votes from only one place and accused Tejashwi Yadav of misleading the public. “Last time too, I voted from only one place. The prince of Jungle-Raj is simply trying to tarnish my image with false claims. Entire Bihar knows this is his game. He should apologise,” the BJP leader said.
