In a bid to counter misinformation and uphold the sanctity of the electoral process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a pioneering initiative titled the "Myth vs Reality Register." 

 

This announcement comes as part of the preparations for the impending Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

 

The inauguration ceremony took place at Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi on Wednesday where Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, unveiled the platform. 

 

Accessible at https://mythvsreality.eci.gov.in/, the initiative aims to furnish credible and authenticated election-related information to the masses.

 

The "Myth vs Reality Register" will serve as a dynamic repository of factual information, continuously updated with debunked misinformation and fresh Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

 

"The ECI envisions the 'Myth vs Reality Register' as a potent tool in dispelling falsehoods and myths prevalent during the election period, empowering individuals to make well-informed decisions as responsible citizens, a statement maintained.

 

CEC Rajiv Kumar highlighted the rampant spread of misinformation as a formidable challenge, alongside other concerns like financial influence and Model Code of Conduct violations, during the announcement of the elections.

 

"With the proliferation of misinformation and false narratives becoming a growing concern in many democracies globally, this innovative and proactive initiative by ECI is an effort to ensure that voters have access to accurate and verified information throughout the electoral process," emphasised the ECI.

 

The 'Myth vs Reality Register' operates through a user-friendly interface, encompassing various aspects of myths and misinformation surrounding critical topics such as EVM/VVPAT, Electoral Roll/Voter Services, and Conduct of Elections. 

 

It offers a comprehensive array of debunked fake information, potential myths circulating on social media platforms, FAQs on significant topics, and reference material for stakeholders.
