Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make his maiden trip to Jammu today during this election year, bringing with him a colossal wave of development. The Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for ambitious projects worth over ₹32,000 Crore, marking a significant stride towards progress.

The highly anticipated visit, generating fervent anticipation across political and social spheres, will include a major political element as Modi addresses a mega public rally at M A Stadium around 11:30 am, aiming to boost the electoral prospects of his party in J&K.

The rally venue will serve as the focal point of his momentous visit, where he will dedicate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects spanning key sectors such as health, education, rail, road, aviation, petroleum, and civic infrastructure. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will distribute appointment orders to around 1500 new government recruits in Jammu and Kashmir and engage with beneficiaries of various government schemes under the 'Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu' programme.

In a tweet on the eve of his visit, Prime Minister Modi expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "A big boost to all-round development! I look forward to being in Jammu tomorrow, 20th February, to inaugurate key development works which will boost ‘Ease of Living.’ It will also be a landmark day for the education sector as various institutions including IITs and IIMs will get permanent campuses."

Security measures have been tightened ahead of PM's visit to Jammu.

POLITICAL SIGNIFICANCE AMIDST DEVELOPMENT SPREE

Amidst the unveiling of substantial development projects, the political tumult is defining the significance of this momentous visit. Coming after a dynamic Budget session that witnessed the passage of crucial bills, including the grant of ST status to Paharis and three communities, reservation for OBCs in Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies, and inclusion of Valmikis in the list of Scheduled Castes of J&K, the visit holds political weight.

The exhaustive itinerary of development projects coupled with strategic political decisions is expected to have a tangible impact on the upcoming general elections. The J&K BJP is actively capitalising on this opportunity, with party workers and leaders working ardently to make it a groundbreaking event for launching the election campaign, undeterred even by inclement weather conditions.

UNVEILING THE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

Official sources reveal a major boost to the education sector, with the Prime Minister inaugurating, dedicating to the nation, and laying the foundation stone for projects worth approximately £13,375 Crore. These projects include permanent campuses for IITs, IIMs, and Central Sanskrit University, along with the inauguration of three new campuses for IIMs, 20 new buildings for Kendriya Vidyalaya, and 13 new Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country.

AIIMS Jammu, a comprehensive healthcare institute established at a cost of over ₹1660 Crore, will be inaugurated, providing tertiary care health services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The hospital, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, is set to offer high-quality patient care services across various medical specialities.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a new terminal building at Jammu Airport, aimed at strengthening air connectivity, boosting tourism, and accelerating economic growth in the region.

RAIL AND ROAD CONNECTIVITY PROJECTS

Various rail projects in Jammu & Kashmir, including the new rail line between Banihal-Khari-Sumbar-Sangaldan and the electrified Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal-Sangaldan section, will be dedicated to the nation. The Prime Minister will also flag off the first Electric train in the valley and inaugurate the train service between Sangaldan station and Baramulla station, enhancing connectivity, ensuring environmental sustainability, and contributing to overall economic development.

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for crucial road projects, including two packages of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, Phase two of the four-laning of Srinagar Ring Road, and the upgradation of the Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri stretch of NH-01. These projects aim to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and boost economic development in the region.

CUF PETROLEUM DEPOT AND OTHER PROJECTS

A significant highlight of the visit will be the laying of the foundation stone for the CUF (Common User Facility) Petroleum depot at Jammu. This state-of-the-art fully automated depot, developed at a cost of about ₹677 Crore, will have a storage capacity of about 100,000 KL for various petroleum products.

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several other development projects worth more than ₹3,150 Crore, focusing on strengthening civic infrastructure and providing public facilities across Jammu and Kashmir. These projects encompass road projects, bridges, grid stations, receiving stations, transmission line projects, common effluent treatment plants, sewage treatment plants, degree college buildings, intelligent traffic management systems, modern Narwal Fruit Mandi, drug testing laboratories, and transit accommodation.

The visit marks a comprehensive approach to development across various sectors, reflecting the government's commitment to enhancing the overall well-being and progress of the Jammu and Kashmir region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's last visit to the Jammu region was on April 23, 2022, commemorating "National Panchayati Raj Diwas" at Palli Panchayat in Samba while unleashing a significant development bonanza.
