In a pointed critique, BJP lawmaker Anurag Thakur aimed at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's transition into the role of Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, suggesting Gandhi had previously enjoyed "power without responsibility."

 

Thakur, initiating discussions on the motion of thanks on the President's address to Parliament, highlighted Gandhi's new position and its accompanying responsibilities.

 

"For many years, Gandhi was enjoying power without responsibility... now he has power with responsibility," Thakur remarked.

 

Addressing the challenges ahead for Gandhi, Thakur questioned his commitment to parliamentary duties, quipping, "Will he sit in Lok Sabha all day? He is not here now."

 

Thakur proceeded to enumerate the achievements of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over the past decade, highlighting India's economic growth and the absence of corruption charges against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration.

 

He also criticised the opposition's response during recent parliamentary sessions, including the walkout following disagreements over discussing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) paper leak.

 

"India, once a fragile economy, has become the world's fifth-largest and fastest-growing economy," Thakur asserted, contrasting this with alleged economic failures and corruption scandals during Congress rule.

 

Turning to internal Congress matters, Thakur scrutinised the party's decisions and personnel, including comments on Rahul Gandhi's leadership claims and the role of individuals like Sam Pitroda within the party.

 

Anurag Thakur mocked the Congress for its 99 seats in the Lok Sabha, contrasting them unfavourably with BJP's 240.

 

"They're feeling the pain. After three tries, they couldn't even hit 100," he remarked.

 

Thakur also criticised Congress over alleged remarks by Sam Pitroda, describing him as "someone's uncle, friend, philosopher, and guide."

 

He questioned Rahul Gandhi's decision to reintegrate Pitroda into the party, citing alignment between Pitroda's statements and Congress' ideology.

 

Further, Thakur took aim at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's situation, quipping, "I've heard of work from home, but never of work from jail."
