India can be called truly developed only when every citizen receives an equal opportunity to progress, President Droupadi Murmu said on Wednesday while launching the ‘Golden Era of Maharashtra through Unity and Trust’ campaign in Nagpur.
Addressing the gathering at the event organised by the Brahma Kumaris, the President stressed the need for collective social transformation rooted in harmony and positive thinking. “We have to discard negativity and embrace positivity,” she said, underlining that national advancement must be inclusive and people-centric.
Murmu described Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as an enduring inspiration, recalling his struggle for justice and freedom. She said his legacy continues to guide efforts aimed at strengthening unity and moral values in society.

The campaign seeks to promote trust, harmony, unity and respect for human values across Maharashtra. Organisers outlined eight guiding principles for the initiative, including the creation of an addiction-free society, adoption of sustainable lifestyles, promotion of cleanliness, reinforcement of civic responsibility, preparedness for humanitarian service, encouragement of value-based education, disciplined and pure living through yoga, and the goal of building a green and sustainable Maharashtra.
The President emphasised that development must not be measured solely through economic indicators but through social equity and moral progress. Equal access to opportunities in education, health and livelihood, she said, would determine whether India achieves genuine progress.
Also present at the event were Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, state Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and senior functionaries of the Brahma Kumaris.
The campaign is expected to hold programmes across the state in the coming months to further its message of unity and collective responsibility.
